Running Assessment From a Real Runner
Nate will guide you through a comprehensive running assessment to determine the most effective strategy for improving your training and performance.
Step1: Gait Analysis
A detailed assessment of your running mechanics to evaluate stride length, cadence, foot strike pattern, joint alignment, and symmetry. Video analysis is used in addition to identify compensations, loading patterns, and inefficiencies that may contribute to pain or injury risk.
Step 2: Movement Assessment
Functional movement patterns are assessed, including squatting, lunging, single-leg balance, and hip control. This evaluation identifies mobility restrictions, stability deficits, and neuromuscular control issues affecting running performance.
Step 3: Shoe Observation
Current running footwear is examined for wear patterns, structural support, cushioning integrity, and suitability for the athlete’s gait mechanics. Wear distribution provides insight into loading tendencies and potential biomechanical imbalances.
Step 4: Strength Testing
Targeted muscle strength testing focused on key running muscle groups, to guide future improvements and rehabilitation planning.
Step 5: Mobility Testing
Muscle and joint mobilty testing to assess for range of motion deficits which may contribute to asymmetry/ imbalances.
Step 6: Manual Therapy/ Treatment
Targeted muscle work to immediately reduce musculoskeletal pain/ tightness, improve movement quality and function.
Other treatments used may include: Joint Mobilizations, Soft Tissue Release, PNF Stretching, Electrical Acupuncture and Kinesio taping
Step 7: Exercise Prescription
A personalized home exercise program will be provided, to target overall mobility and specific areas of concern. This will often include rehab exercises, ball release (lacrosse ball), foam rolling, and active isolated stretching.
